Becoming Who You're Meant to Be

Lately, I've been thinking a lot about growth.
Not the kind of growth that looks impressive on the outside.
The quiet kind.
The kind that happens after an uncomfortable conversation.
The kind that asks us to honestly look at ourselves and decide whether we're willing to change.
A few days ago, I had one of those moments.
My mentor pointed out something I already knew deep down but hadn't fully allowed myself to see.
My eating habits weren't aligned with the person I wanted to become.
If I'm honest, I had been telling myself for months that I should eat better.
But it was only a thought.
Then suddenly, it wasn't.
It was as if reality gently—but firmly—held up a mirror.
And for a moment, I felt embarrassed.
Ashamed.
Disappointed.
Growth Doesn't Always Feel Good
I think we often imagine healing as peaceful.
Sometimes it is.
Other times, healing begins with discomfort.
It begins with realizing that we've been settling for something we know isn't our best.
That realization can sting.
The important part isn't avoiding those emotions.
It's learning how to move through them.
That day, I talked everything out.
I journaled.
I left a voice message for my mentor and our small support group.
Not because I needed someone to tell me everything was okay.
I needed to hear myself process it.
As I spoke, something shifted.
I remembered why I hired a mentor in the first place.
Not to make me feel comfortable all the time.
But to help me become the person I dream about being.
The Gift of Being Seen
One of the greatest gifts another person can offer us is to truly see us.
Later that day, I asked my mentor a question about something I was experiencing.
She responded with a short voice message.
Only a few minutes long.
But as I listened, I found myself crying.
Not because she fixed my problem.
Because she understood it.
She saw something in me that I couldn't yet fully articulate myself.
Her words weren't generic advice.
They were personal.
They were specific to me.
To my energy.
To my way of moving through life.
It reminded me that personalized guidance is something we rarely experience.
We can read books.
Listen to podcasts.
Watch videos.
Those things are valuable.
But there is something extraordinary about being deeply known by another person who can reflect your own truth back to you.
We Heal in Relationship
For a long time, I thought healing happened alone.
Now I think relationships are part of the healing.
Not because someone else changes us.
But because healthy relationships allow us to see ourselves more clearly.
They challenge us.
Support us.
Reflect our strengths.
Reveal our blind spots.
Sometimes they simply hold a space where we're finally able to hear our own inner wisdom.
Becoming Your Future Self
I've also noticed something changing inside me.
The version of myself I used to imagine as my future self doesn't feel so far away anymore.
She feels... familiar.
She isn't constantly trying to fix herself.
She isn't questioning every decision.
She isn't living from shame.
She's simply present.
Content.
Comfortable with who she is.
The interesting thing is that I don't think I'm chasing her anymore.
I think I'm becoming her.
One small decision at a time.
One honest conversation at a time.
One loving correction at a time.
It's Already Here
One realization keeps returning to me.
The life we dream about doesn't always appear all at once.
Sometimes it quietly arrives while we're busy becoming the person who can receive it.
Lately I've been cleaning my home.
Letting go of things that no longer feel like me.
Creating more beauty.
More simplicity.
More intention.
As I do, I keep having the same thought:
"It's already here."
The peace.
The confidence.
The clarity.
They're no longer things I'm hoping to experience someday.
They're becoming the way I live today.
Perhaps that's what transformation really is.
Not becoming someone different.
Simply allowing more of who you've always been to come forward.
